Performance Marketing Consultant

I’m Walieldin Taher. I run paid media, measurement and lifecycle automation for e-commerce and growth brands in Saudi Arabia — as an individual, not an agency.

I’m a performance marketing consultant working with e-commerce and growth brands across Saudi Arabia and the GCC. Paid media on Google, Meta, TikTok, Snapchat and programmatic. The measurement layer underneath it — GA4, GTM, server-side tagging. And the lifecycle automation that stops you buying every order twice.

There is no account manager. The person on the call is the person in the ad account.

Twelve years in performance marketing, analytics and e-commerce growth. Arabic and English.

Scope

What a performance marketing consultant actually does

Consulting is not agency service delivery at a smaller price. It is a narrower job done at a higher level, and it is worth being exact about the boundary before you spend money on either.

What I take responsibility for:

  • Channel strategy and budget allocation — where the next riyal goes, and what has to be true for it to come back.
  • Campaign build and ongoing optimisation — structure, bidding, audiences, feeds, exclusions. Hands in the account, not a monthly deck about the account.
  • Measurement architecture — GA4 and GTM, server-side tagging, Conversions API, deduplication, and reconciling what the platforms claim against what your back office banked.
  • Lifecycle and CRM automation — abandoned cart, win-back, post-purchase, segmentation, and the reporting that tells you whether any of it moved contribution.

What I don’t do, so nobody wastes a call finding out:

  • Creative production at volume. I’ll write the brief and tell you what to shoot. I won’t staff the shoot.
  • PR, influencer management and organic social.
  • Building or redesigning your store. Most of my work is with online stores that already exist — that side of it is e-commerce growth consulting for Saudi brands.

If your problem is volume of work, you need people. If your problem is direction, diagnosis or margin, you need one senior person with access.

Channels

The channels I run

01 / Google

Google Ads — Search, Shopping and Performance Max

Search for demand that already exists, Shopping and Performance Max for the catalogue. On KSA store accounts the failure point is almost never the bidding — it is the Merchant Center feed. Missing GTINs, Arabic titles that don’t match how people search, disapprovals nobody opened the email about. I fix the feed before I touch the campaigns.

02 / Meta

Meta — Facebook and Instagram

Prospecting and retargeting, structured so the two aren’t claiming the same order. Conversions API alongside the browser pixel, with event IDs matched so the deduplication actually works. An account sending server events without deduplication is inflating its own results and calling it performance.

03 / TikTok

TikTok Ads

TikTok rewards creative volume, not budget. The account tends to plateau at the rate you can produce new hooks, so the constraint moves out of the ad platform and into your production calendar. I’ll tell you how many concepts a week the account needs, and I’ll tell you when the answer is more than you can supply.

04 / Snapchat

Snapchat Ads

Snapchat is a first-tier channel in Saudi Arabia and it is routinely treated as an afterthought — one campaign, one audience, the same creative that ran on Meta. It carries its own format logic and its own audiences. I run it properly or I tell you it isn’t a fit for your product.

05 / Programmatic

Programmatic

Display and video bought against real audience data rather than a package a rep sold you. Rarely the right starting point for a store. Useful once the core channels are saturated and you need reach that isn’t auction-bound.

Measurement

Measurement is the part most accounts get wrong

Most underperforming accounts I look at aren’t underperforming. They’re being measured badly, and the decisions made on top of that measurement are what’s costing money.

Three systems report on the same sale and none of them agree. That is normal. What isn’t normal is running a business without knowing why.

What the ad platform reportsWhat GA4 reportsWhat the back office reports
Self-reported conversions, claimed against its own click and view windowsLast-click within the GA4 model, only for sessions it managed to attributeOrders actually placed, net of cancellations, returns and failed payments
Every platform claims the same order, so the totals sum to more than you soldConsent gaps, cross-device loss and session timeouts pull the number downThe only figure your bank statement agrees with
Use it to compare campaigns inside one platform. Never to size the businessUse it for cross-channel direction of travelUse it as the denominator for blended ROAS

One concrete example of how this breaks, and it is common. A store fires its purchase tag as soon as the thank-you page renders, but the platform pushes order revenue into the data layer asynchronously a moment later. The tag reads an empty value. The order is counted; the revenue arrives as zero. Conversion volume looks healthy, revenue looks catastrophic, and someone spends a quarter optimising toward a number that was never real.

Nobody finds that in a dashboard. You find it by opening the tag, watching the event fire, and comparing three days of orders line by line against the back office.

A platform-reported ROAS is a claim made by the party being paid. Blended ROAS — total revenue from the back office divided by total media spend — is the number you can take to a board meeting. I work to the second one.

Process

How I work

Step 01

Week one is diagnosis, not launch. I need read access to the ad accounts, GA4, GTM and the store back office, plus the last twelve months of spend and revenue. Before that data is in front of me, anything I tell you is a guess.

Step 02

First deliverable is a written diagnosis. What the accounts are actually doing, where the measurement is lying, what the realistic ceiling is, and the three changes ranked by expected effect on contribution — not on ROAS.

Step 03

Then we build. Tracking gets fixed before spend moves. Changing budgets on top of broken measurement just changes which number is wrong.

Step 04

Reporting is one view, refreshed continuously, reconciled to the back office, plus a working session every two weeks. Not a forty-slide monthly deck.

What I need from you: one decision-maker, access without a three-week IT queue, honest margin data, and the willingness to hear that the problem is the offer rather than the ads. Engagements where margin is withheld don’t work, and I’d rather say so now.

The honest comparison

Consultant or agency — which one you actually need

Most people searching this phrase are here because an agency disappointed them. That doesn’t automatically mean a consultant is the fix.

Hire a consultant when:

  • You have execution capacity — in-house, freelance or an existing agency — but no senior direction.
  • Spend is meaningful, but not large enough to fund a retainer plus an account manager plus their margin.
  • The problem is diagnostic: tracking, attribution, margin, or growth that stalled without an obvious cause.
  • You want one accountable person rather than a team you meet once at the pitch.

Hire an agency when:

  • You need creative produced at volume, every week, indefinitely.
  • You need several specialists working at once across many channels.
  • You need coverage more than you need depth.

If what you need is an agency, I’ll tell you on the first call and, where I can, point you at one. Taking a retainer to do a job I’m the wrong shape for costs us both six months.

No pitch. Tell me what you’re running and what it’s returning, and I’ll tell you which one of the two you actually need.

Experience

Track record

Twelve years in performance marketing, analytics and e-commerce growth, across Google, Meta, TikTok, Snapchat and programmatic.

The best single campaign I’ve run returned 20X on ad spend. That is a peak, not an average — blended across accounts, 9X is the honest number, and the conditions behind both matter more than the figures. Total revenue driven across twelve years is over 3 billion SAR. Cost per acquisition moves the same way: best account, 48% lower; median across accounts, closer to 35%.

I don’t publish client case studies without permission, so treat every number above as unverified until I show you the source. What I’ll do on a call is open a live account and walk you through the structure, the spend and the return, and answer which account, which period and what the conditions were. You can also see the full results overview on the homepage.

Location

Working across Saudi Arabia and the GCC

Most clients are in Saudi Arabia, with some across the wider GCC — the UAE, Kuwait, Qatar and Bahrain. If you’re nearby, I’ll meet you in person for the first conversation.

That matters more than it sounds. Media behaviour here is specific: Snapchat carries weight it doesn’t carry elsewhere, cash on delivery and BNPL change your real contribution per order, and the demand curve bends hard around Ramadan, Eid, White Friday and National Day. A consultant working from another time zone learns that from a blog post.

I work in Arabic and English — accounts, ad copy, reporting and the call itself, in whichever one your team actually works in.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What does a performance marketing consultant cost?

It depends on spend and scope, and anyone quoting you a number before seeing your account is guessing. The two models I work in are a monthly retainer for ongoing management and direction, or a fixed-price project — an audit, a tracking rebuild, a launch. Retainers are priced on the work, not on a percentage of your media spend, because percentage pricing pays me to spend more of your money. You’ll get a specific figure on the first call, free, with no obligation.

Should I hire a consultant or a performance marketing agency?

Hire a consultant when you have people who can execute but nobody senior setting direction, or when the problem is diagnostic — tracking, attribution, margin, growth that stalled for no visible reason. Hire an agency when you need creative produced at volume, or several specialists working at once, or coverage rather than depth. If your answer is the agency, I’ll say so on the first call rather than sell you six months of the wrong thing.

Which ad platforms work best for Saudi e-commerce brands?

It depends on your product, your margin and who buys it, and any consultant who answers this with a ranking hasn’t seen your numbers. In practice: Google Search captures demand that already exists; Shopping and Performance Max do the work for catalogue businesses; Meta is the default for prospecting and retargeting; TikTok scales with creative volume; Snapchat has real reach in Saudi Arabia and is usually the most under-used channel in the account. Most stores I see are running three of these badly rather than two of them well.

Do you work with Salla and Zid stores?

Yes. Both, plus Shopify and custom builds. The practical point with Salla and Zid is that what you can change is bounded — the checkout, the data layer and the theme are only editable up to a point, which means some standard tracking advice simply cannot be executed as written and has to be rebuilt to fit the platform. I’ll tell you which of my recommendations your platform can actually take before you pay for any of them.

How long before I see results from paid media?

Tracking fixes show up immediately, because they change what you can see rather than what you’re buying — that is usually the first week. Campaign changes need to clear the learning phase and then accumulate enough conversions to be readable, which is typically two to four weeks depending on your order volume. A stable, trustworthy trend takes about ninety days. Anyone promising a transformation in week one is either lucky or counting something that isn’t revenue.

Do you work in Arabic?

Yes. Arabic and English, both natively. That covers the call, the account, the ad copy, the reporting and conversations with your team. Arabic ad copy on this market has to be written, not translated — machine-translated Arabic reads as foreign to a Saudi buyer and it shows in the click-through rate.

What access do you need before we start?

Read access to the ad accounts, GA4, Google Tag Manager, Merchant Center and the store back office, plus the last twelve months of spend and revenue and your real margin by product category. I don’t need admin on day one and I don’t need your customer database. If an access request takes three weeks to clear internally, tell me now — that timeline, not the campaigns, will decide how fast anything moves.

Running a small business rather than a scaling brand? If the problem is leads going cold after the click — missed calls, slow replies, thin reviews, nobody chasing the quote — that is productized work with a published price, and it is what Revneura does, from SAR 1,099 a month with no setup fee and no lock-in. Same operator, different shape of work.
